Safety and Security Audit Checklist

Back

This resource brings together a few ways of thinking about safety and security. There are physical concerns (which connect to accessibility, but also reducing risks from uneven surfaces and loose railings, and potential exposure to toxic chemicals) and social/psychological safety (from lighting, limiting exposure and ensuring clear access to exits). There are also elements of information gathering as well as practical measures and safety checks.

On the left side, there are the main entries. Some of them may not apply to your co-op and its property, and you’ll want to edit the list so it makes the most sense for you. Some of the entries have options in red.

On the right side, there are spaces for you to enter your evaluation. The sheet counts the number of y(es) entries for each and sums them on line 4. Columns C through E let you monitor your progress (are things up-to-date? in progress? or planned?). Columns G through I give opportunities to refine additional actions (whether there’s a need to commit more resources, connect to your long-term planning, or take follow-up action).
