Aging in our co-op communities
We all get older. Aging in place means having the health and social supports and services people need to live safely and independently in their home for as long as they wish and are able. It can have substantial benefits for older members, but also offers security for others in the co-op in knowing the co-op has a culture of aging in mind.
As housing co-ops reach new age milestones so do co-op members. How can we make our co-ops for age-friendly communities? Together we can learn about how we can support not only older members to age well in the co-op but also develop a culture that keeps aging in mind.
In this workshop, we will:
- Explore the challenges and benefits of developing a culture of aging at the co-op
- Dive into common challenges like overhousing and meaningful access and finding solutions
- Discover the role community care can play in developing a nurturing environment not just for older members, but for everyone in the co-op.
