Legal Resources
The Cooperative Association Act underpins all housing co-ops in BC, non-profit and equity alike. Even if the day-to-day affairs of the co-op may focus on internal Rules, policies and procedures, those internal rules must comply with legislation.
Here we offer a Guide to the Co-op Act, and information on other legislation that has a direct impact on housing co-operatives, like the Civil Resolution Tribunal Act.
Just a quick reminder: although a lot of elements of housing co-op are similar across jurisdictions, laws and language are not universal. Our resources reflect the particular legislation that is active in British Columbia, including the BC Cooperative Association Act, and the Personal Information and Privacy Act.
